Suspenders: Need a hero? Suspenders is an old-fashioned, subterranean den run by retired FDNY firefighters. The na-ture of the space seems to constitute a nook for Wall Street bears to hibernate in during the winter. The bar is large and charming, accented by art-nouveau touches like lamps adorned with dragonflies and a stained-glass depiction of a bartender serving some frothy mugs to two dames and a likely card-shark. The cocktails are small, but stiff and carefully crafted. All three meals are served in the restaurant portion of the establishment. Only a breezeway separates the bar from the Wall St. 4/5 subway entrance, a convenient touch for those who generally stumble home. Suspenders is probably one of only a few bars where you can stop by for cornflakes in the morning and return after work for a beer. |
