Yes Surya, this is some fine Indian food. The prices appeal to the higher castes ($16 average per entrée) but that doesn’t stop half of the West Village from packing in on weekends. Modern light décor surrounds the comfortable seating area and the kind service makes Gandhi seem aggressive. The suede banquettes in the lounging area are charming and the low lights soften them further. If the weather is nice, check out the tranquil patio space in the back, which holds roughly 30 people between exposed brick and ivy covered walls. Surya’s soft music spans vocal sounds to tabla beats, but it’s simply a backdrop to chatting over Tajmapolitans (cinnamon cosmopolitan).
