Sullivan Hall: At the end of 2007, the Lion’s Den, famed grungy concert venue, closed its doors for the last time, effectively freaking out every live music fan in Manhattan. Thankfully, the Den was renovated and reopened as Sullivan Hall—"better, brighter and with a nicer smell." Sullivan’s bare white walls and unmarred wood flooring make for a somewhat sterile environment, but if a lessening of character is the price of upgraded lighting and sound systems, then it was a fair trade. The refurbished hall (345-person capacity) continues to book an eclectic group of bands, performing nightly. The musicians aren’t the only stars of Sullivan Hall, however, as both Bruce Willis and Susan Sarandon have reportedly been spotted at live shows. Who knew Bruce was such a rabid jug band enthusiast! |
