Sugar Bar: Singer-songwriter-producer duo Ashford & Simpson, that enduring symbol of musical marital bliss, have their own Upper West Side supper club. Any time of day, the solid-like-a-rock Afro-Caribbean décor is inviting, the staff friendly, and the wonderful smells from the kitchen fill the air. Starting on Thursday nights and running through the weekends, an impressive roster of live musicians perform on the small elevated stage in one of two dining rooms, though there is an additional cover charge these nights. There’s a small bar near the entrance and another bar upstairs, but the real star of Sugar Bar is the food, which goes from Caribbean to South American seamlessly. Don’t confuse it with the completely unrelated Sugar in TriBeCa. |
