Stillwater Bar & Grill: If the hard drinkin’ make-believe rock band in "Almost Famous" really existed, they’d have no problem sharing their name with this place. Despite its dingy charm, Stillwater comes across as pretty standard-issue; no surprises here. There's a pool table, a dart board, an Internet jukebox - the usual suspects. Geared around pleasing local unemployed artists and neighborhood winos, Stillwater features an all-day happy hour from 11am-7pm boasting $3 pints, plus an impressive scotch list. If Stillwater can avoid the bankers and frat boys that cheap brews and multiple TV screens attract, it may turn out to be a perfect addition to a somewhat stale East Village corner. |
