St. Andrew’s: This lively Scottish pub boasts a bounty of beer (from six continents), a bevy of ex-pats, and, best of all, handsome lads in kilts and live music on Saturdays. Yup, these Scots really show off fantastic…traditional music. Ahem. Amid these sights and sounds are groups of locals (as well as a few tourists) lingering at the dark wood pub tables and the long polished bar, sipping any of the special 110 bottled brews or 250 single-malt whiskeys (the friendly staff offers spot-on recommendations). There’s a restaurant in the back where you can delight in pub grub and that all-around favorite, haggis. Short of a vacation in Fife, the surrounding red brick walls adorned with beer logos and old pictures are the perfect background for the enveloping salty smell of fried “chips” and the peat smoke flavors of a good Highland whiskey (try Oban). Whether it’s the Gaelic accents or the breezy kilts, this relaxed atmosphere is the perfect place to wind down and check out the plaid, er, pub. |
