Spy:
The former Discotheque, which is now the former go-go, is likely to soon be the former Spy—not to be mistaken for the ’90s Spy Bar, which rocked. Essentially an embassy to the outer boroughs, this has proven an oddly tough area for clubs seeking an NYC following, and the gimmicky Spy is unlikely to solve that mystery. The mid-sized club’s entrance and exit are one and the same and the coat checks are right there to make things extra confusing. Inside, generic Brand X house and hip-hop plays in a main room decorated with black and white photos of James Bond and other TV and film spooks. The elevated VIP area is more of the same, as is the second bar and overspill area in back where a cartoonish Spy vs. Spy mural completes the theme.
