South Brooklyn Pizza
Beyonce and Jay-Z may love the pizza at Lucali’s, but they can’t wash down their pie with a glass of wine or a cocktail there. Enter South Brooklyn Pizza, the newest contender for brick oven pizza perfection in Carroll Gardens, complete with a fully-stocked bar. Owner Jim McGown, a Brooklyn real estate developer and certified math geek (his degree’s in Pure Mathematics), is obsessed with artisanal Neapolitan-style pizza making. So obsessed, the pizzeria features a 19th century brick oven imported from Naples, Italy. You won’t find any measly slices here—all pizzas are served the old-fashioned way, as in dinner-plate sized Margheritas, with Tuscan-style thin crusts, imported cheeses and herbs, and locally-produced toppings such as Esposito’s Italian sausage. Keep an eye out for monthly pizza-making classes, and, perhaps, sightings of hip hop’s dynamic pizza-loving duo.

expensive oven, poor pie

I can't help but be disappointed by the pizza at this place. Their "imported pizza oven" is continually help up as proof of supposed greatness, but can't help remind you of the rich kids who bought the most expensive sports gear only to sit on the bench all season.

burnt and bland

Your best bet is to avoid this overpriced place and head to Lucali's. Just because he has an expensive imported oven, doesn't mean he can make pizza....that is of course unless you like it burnt and bland.

Also, how come it is closed most of the time?

A great time all around

I thought the customer service was great! The girls working there were super friendly as soon as we walked in, gave us a free buyback on our drinks, and hooked us up with some fresh chocolate cookies out of the brick oven. I can't imagine what kind of customers you would have to be to receive bad customer service at South Brooklyn Pizza.
