Solex:
You can finally go French without going phony. You can also get tastefully wasted off of a wide variety of wines. Better than the average wine bar, trés chic Solex offers the sophisticated palette a place to chillax with the East Village sophisticates. You would think the serving staff might want to stick up their noses at the neighboring dives and their word-slurring regulars, but the surprisingly relaxed vibe in the restaurant gives way to more professionalism than snobbery. Sit at the sleek steel bar with a date or ménage à trois at one of the tables. Pair your bottle or two with a selection of small plates—sweet or savory. Despite the location, you won’t find a shot of Jameson and a PBR here for $5, but there are bottles in all price ranges and wines by the glass.
the ambiance is wonderful and the people are even better. the bartender (Yann) gave a wonderful pairing suggestion for the food that we ordered. In addition everything was delicious and I am ready to go back for more. Did I mention that I actually did go back there for my birthday (and Christof was wonderfully accomodating. he even set aside an area for my party without hesitation)? I recommend the Wellington eclair.

NO PRESSURE, CHILLIN WINE BAR
Shecky's review on this wine bar was right on the money. Solex offers a casual, unpressured atmosphere and something about this modern nook screams romance. Maybe it’s the sexy wines served by a knowledgeable bartender. Or the close quarters, which make walking to the bathroom a chance to brush up against that guy you’ve been ogling. Either way, this classy wine bar will win over anyone with an ounce of taste. Speaking of taste, don’t forget to order up some of the flavorful tarts and quiches.
