Smith and Wollensky: Despite being a chain founded by the TGI Friday’s gang, Smith & Wollensky’s earned a reputation for serving some of the primest rib this side of Adam. A signature green and white façade fronts a brown leather and wood dining room. Old pictures line the walls, surrounding carnivores who scarf down power lunches of Fred Flintstone-sized steaks and enormous supplemental sides of onion rings and creamed spinach. Dinner is big business, with businessmen and their clients bringing an old boys’ club feeling to the joint. After work you can scarcely reach the bar as patrons wait (and wait and wait) for their tables. There is a pick-up scene here, but it’s of the last chance, third marriage variety. The martinis are stiff, as are the dudes who order them. |
