Smith & Mills: Ever pee in an elevator? Random, yes, but so is having your toilet installed in an early 20th-century elevator shaft. For some reason though, it’s the perfect adornment at the newest work from the owners of Employees Only and Beatrice Inn. Smith & Mills is a tiny, unpretentious, unmarked room with Titanic-era charm. Stripped of its predecessor’s speakeasy rules and regulations, S & M (whoa) serves classy cocktails made the right way like the hard-to-find Old Fashioned. Be prepared to shell out though, those old-school drinks don’t have old-school prices. And like being on the ship, you can have your $40 caviar prepared in the kitchen literally behind the bar till 4am. |
