Silk Road Palace: Warning: This place—known as “China Wine” by its many regulars—is not for the fainthearted, the romantics, or the snobs. If you’re looking for an authentic, upscale Chinese dining experience, wander not down the Silk Road. If, however, you want a crazy start to a big night out (or premature end, for the unprepared), you’ll soon discover this Palace lies on the banks of the constantly-flowing White Wine River. Sure, the Americanized Chinese dishes are cheap (and surprisingly tasty), but the never-ending glasses of free white wine are the reason this place even has regulars to speak of. Sure, the wine comes from a box, but that’s only fitting for a Palace with decidedly non-palatial décor and menus that look like they were thrown together by, well, someone who had too much white wine. But that hasn’t exactly stopped anyone else from showing up, so expect to wait—and to get sauced before you get seated. |
