Shoolbred's
Find your inner alpha and don’t let the frat pack have all the fun here—you’ll want to rest your elbows on this 20-foot mahogany bar more than a few times. Everything from the (gasp!) attentive bar service, to the (double gasp!) ample leather seating, to the (don't faint!) comfortable decibel-level of the music makes you feel right at home and happy to be there. The laidback atmosphere meshes well with the local guests and creates a solid spot for drinks with friends. The fireplace in back is an added bonus, especially on those stormy nights when you just can't muster the energy to face a clipboard wielding doorman. We only have one question—when can we move in?

I like it!

I had a great time at this bar. I went on a Tuesday, the music was really cool, it wasn't over crowded, I live in the hood and I'm tired and like it kind of chilled. No tv's!! My kind of place. The bartender told me it gets crowded on weekends but that's good for them. I saw a sign for lobster night on Thursday the other day walking by! Holy smokes I'm in. Can't imagine eating a lobster dinner overlooking 2nd Ave. Shoolbred's is very welcome here.

Ummm...guess you're not too observant, but, the theme that you think is German is actually Scottish. Note the 30 some Single Malts behind the bar and pics of men in kilts on the wall. German's don't wear kilts, silly. And, no, the bartenders are not wearing schoolgirl uniforms, but, at least you noticed. Also, not sure what you mean by awful expensive beer. I had a Chimay and my friends had Leffe Blonde and some micro brew from Brooklyn at $6 each. Perhaps you should check out cans of Pabst Blue Ribbon at Down The Hatch and leave Shoolbred's for the adults. For all the rest of you check out the impressive Bourbon & Scotch selection and ignore the moron harassing the Germans behind the bar.

Just strange

This place is pretty awful. Mostly, I think it's just confused. With the German themed decor, awful/expensive beer choices, and terrible music blaring,it wont be long before this place is gone. As we sat at the bar I would say ten people opened the door peered in and thought otherwise. Smart.

Cool, low key spot

Good, interesting beers on tap. Stopped in around 1am on a Friday night, ample seating at the bar, the tables in back were taken. There is also a big table behind beads (as seen in picture) that looked cool to reserve for dinner. Good to stop in after a date for a drink and to talk.
