Those Greenpoint regulars worried that the new bar in place of Jack O'Neills would be too cool for their gentrifying 'hood can rest assured that the true hipster hot spots will still remain about a mile south. Shayz Lounge opened with the charm and mildly divey appeal of a settled neighborhood bar where the owner will buy you a round, patrons show up with their pups, and the bartender kindles the fireplaces while you sit and warm up on the nearby loveseat. Hopefully the $3 beer specials will stick long after the opening and until it's nice enough out to use the bar's backyard garden. Open daily 5pm-4am.
