Section 8: With the departure of famed East Village gay bars like Wonder Bar and the arrival of a slough of subpar newcomers, the neighborhood has been sorely in need of a new go-to spot. Section 8 may not be the messiah New York's gay scene has been waiting for, but at least it's spacious and pleasantly un-grungy. Stop by for the pool table, the decent juke box, and the reasonably priced drinks. It's a mixed crowd, so women and straight (but not narrow) folks are welcome, but most of the time you can expect the neighborhood's typical mix of still-half-closeted NYU boys, moneyed professionals with cash to blow (and, sometimes, for blow), and aging scene veterans on the prowl. |
