Seaport Café: This outdoor eatery is the kind of place where tourists flock, convinced they’re getting a big, thick slab of genuine New York. It’s also the type of place where fanny-packers are sure to whip out a video camera in order to document the experience of eating burgers with their friends. Situated right on Pier 17, the Seaport Café could be a decent place to wile away a summer afternoon in the sun (live music is occasionally featured nearby), if it weren’t for the grating sounds of parents yelling at their kids to stand up straight while they wind their disposable cameras. Breezes coming off the East River and surprisingly affordable ($5) drinks are pluses, though, and the view of ships against the Financial District backdrop is surreally picturesque. |
