Sandro's: Roman import Sandro Fioriti just opened his umpteenth NYC eatery on the somewhat geriatric Upper East Side (meh). But don't let the location get you down, this pristine spot stands out as a real Italian restaurant in a neighborhood that's crammed with imposters; and it's about time. Enough of the pizza tossers who think Rome is in upstate New York. The food here really is traditional Roman, and the bar pours only authentic Italian vino. They picked all the winners, like a fruity Valpolicella and robust Duca d'Aragona. Slurp up some outrageously good Pasta al Limone while you're at it. Stick around for the magic that starts after midnight, when young singles migrate to the bar for the yummy (and on the house) dishes of cacio e pepe pasta. Turns out gettin’ it on is another Roman tradition. |
