Interesting things happen in New York City alleys, so where better to head for a naughty night than a Spanish alleyway in New York? A stone-paved floor, lanterns hanging from cracked plaster walls, and a red tile roof overhanging the kitchen do a good job of bringing NoHo hipsters the closest they’ll get to an honest-to-goodness “calléjon” short of hopping the next e-saver to Barcelona. At the distressed metal bar, an equal mix of neighborhood regulars and third-daters share plates of pinchos and raciones over pitchers of sangria. Downstairs, in a glass bauble-bedecked grotto, Diesel and Dickies meet Banana Republic and Brooks Brothers for private parties or happy hour half-priced tapas. After all, happy hour is New York’s version of the Mediterranean evening stroll.
