Rosemary’s Greenpoint Tavern: Can you blame the hipsters for overrunning this little red nook right on Bedford? Leading lady Rosemary offers only a three-beer selection, and her bartenders blurt unapologetically that there are no bottles at all. The special is a $3.50 Styrofoam cup filled with 32 ounces of Budweiser, and the attitude is take it or leave it. In the end, the big white Styro oasis sways newbies and ’Burg-sters alike, and tends to erase thoughts of wine. Though small, the red vinyl diner-like booths and framed New Yorker covers make Rosemary’s chipper and her holiday spirit keeps things interesting: She decks the bar according to season and pushes baskets full of gratis candy for Halloween, Valentine’s, and the like. A strong woman, a large beer, and sweet-tooth crack—if you’ve got another vice to fill, find another bar. |
