Rose Bar:
The Gramercy Hotel’s Rose Bar feels like a friend’s parlor, that is if you happen to have a wealthy, extravagant, art-collector friend who hangs with over-inflated celebs. Owned by famed-hotelier Ian Schrager and artist Julian Schnabel, the high-ceilinged room is decked with striking artwork and credit-killing cocktials. If it looks like a Warhol or Basquiat, it probably is. Low velvety seating (designed by Schnabel) makes for great sight lines for art and crowd alike. If you’re with a group, reserve a table by the grandiose fireplace and enjoy world beats in the tripped-out environment of rustic wooden pillars and adobe-inspired walls. Rose is self-described “haute bohemian,” and there isn’t a better two-world assessment.
