Rosa Mexicano:
This place used to be the cavernous America restaurant that leaned more toward Iowa than Las Vegas in looks, and though the red and blue stars still glow in neon outside, there’s more than a little Latin spice to Rosa’s interior. The still massive space—designed, like Rosa Mexicano’s other locations, by David Rockwell—is jazzed up with such visually stimulating structures you’ll almost forget how long you’ve been waiting to reach the bar. A center monolith is surrounded by a shallow moat of sorts; one side is lined with tiny white diver statuettes and the other is navy blue-tiled and adorned with candles. The fresh guacamole made at your table is always a thrill and a treat, no matter how many of the 40 tequila options you may or may not have sampled.
Me and 2 of my friends went there last night for a few drinks and appetizers. The cocktail waiter was ok at first, but when we asked for another chair, he said there wasn't one available. Then 1/2 hour later he said he could get us one, but we had to put it out of the way of traffic. No problem, but then the manager came over even before we got the chair and gave us a 5 minute lecture on keeping the chair out of the way. Ok, we're not 5 years old. Then when we asked for the bill, the waiter charged the entire thing to the credit card that was holding the tab. Who does that??!! Two of us decide to stay for 1 more drink and when we told the waiter we wanted 1 more he was so rude. 30 minutes later we still didn't get a drink and he said he had to reopen the tab. Hello, just take another credit card and start a new one. When I asked him if he didn't want to serve us he got very confrontational and told me to speak to his manager. Too much trouble for a margarita and some guacamole...
