Rock-n-Sake: Joseph Ulloa was already planning on expanding his New Orleans designer sushi joint to Long Island and Manhattan when Hurricane Katrina hit, speeding up the process. Rock-n-Sake has a reputation for tasty sushi with a Southern twist in a hipster-approved environment. While it’s no Morimoto, it serves up a wide assortment of traditional and creative sushi, such as shitake mushrooms stuffed with shrimp, a spicy crawfish roll, sautéed whole calamari, and rolls such as the Hawaii 5-0 roll (coconut tempura shrimp and cream cheese rolled inside mangoes and avocado). Given the location, expect lots of sake choices at the bar and a techno soundtrack to attract pre-clubbing crowds, who will at least be well-fed. |
