River Barrel Cafe: With an outdoorsy moniker and woodsy interior, River Barrel Café feels a little like an uninspired version of the popular 'Burg bites-and-booze spot Lodge. Likewise, their menu (brunch, dinner, bar food) resembles the updated American fare of fellow Franklin St. neighbor Greenpoint Label, but with prices heftier than the competition. The only thing that really stands out here is the beer selection. With about 30 options, River Barrel Café offers "old faithful" picks for beer newbies and a selection of Reserves ($12-28) for hops aficionados. But despite the array of bourgeois Belgian beers here, the neighborhood might have been happier if River Barrel took its tips from economically-friendlier bars in the area. Open daily 11:30am-2am. |
