Red Egg: Strange as it may seem, Red Egg’s fusion of Chinese and Peruvian food may be the wave of the future. Injecting Chinatown with a much-needed dose of style, this restaurant/lounge/bar (still BYOB for now) serves dim sum all day and night, plus a moderately priced menu of dishes such as four flavor beef stew, Peking duck sliders, and Ají de Gallina (spicy shredded chicken served with rice and potatoes). The sleek decor offers modern takes on Chinese traditions like the 88 lights hanging above the bar near the entrance (instead of the traditional 88 lucky Koi) and hot pink and charcoal walls (instead of the usual red and black), with smoky mirrors throughout. There’s a quiet place to dine towards the back, and off to the side is a lounge to unwind in as well. After all, what’s more calming than knowing that we can all get along? |
