R Bar (NYC)
Having housed Pioneer Bar for half a decade, this enormous 400+-capacity room was always begging to become something grander, and now it is. Decked out in red with stripper poles in the back room and a rock-minded DJ spinning to a neighborhood crowd—probably the one displaced when nearby 6s & 8s closed—R Bar is hoping to avoid the striped-shirt clubber types that frequent nearby BLVD and the like. That said, the door policy here is lenient, the beer starts flowing in the immediate after-work hours, and those suds are flowing from a tap, which you won’t see in W. 27th Street’s promoter-heavy boites. (R Bar is owned by the team behind Meatpacking District standout Brass Monkey.)

Great Place for A Party!!

My friend and 50 of her closest friends had a fantastic time celebrating her birthday party here. She reserved the back room (free of charge)with the stripper poles and there was enough room for everyone to sit, dance, and drink comfortably. I highly recommend the place. Nice decor, service was good, and had no trouble with the bouncers...but that maybe because we got there early around 9:30. All in all it was a fabulous bar.

bouncers treat you like dirt...

I was yelled at inappropriately for no good reason. Why would I pay good money to be treated so poorly. I don't recommend supporting this behavior. They will find one reason or another to be jobs worthy here. These bouncers are jerks. Wear your tough skin ladies if you feel the need to go because they will find one reason or another to yell at you. I was embarrassed by how rudely I was treated. All I wanted to do was wash my hands and the bouncer screamed at me to wait in the 30 person line to do so. All the women in line were yelling that it was fine. He was on a power trip and made them shut the door with me outside. Another worker sat there watching. My friends and I left.

Stripper poles?

Keep your eyes peeled for unique art work, but watch out for the stripper poles.
