PT212: PT212, a spinoff of Brooklyn's hip Planet Thailand, has brought to Chelsea what most thought was only available in the outer boroughs: funky decor and great cuisine. The place is splashed in crazy amounts of red everything with lucite chairs that are actually comfier than they appear. A DJ situated in the roomy front lounge-like area spins a mix of hip hop, pop, and Euro beats, while the bartender mixes up delights like the Thai Bellini (prosecco and mango puree) and a coconut juice-and-rum concoction served in a hollowed out coconut shell. And even more delightful is the lengthy menu that mixes Thai with sushi at affordable prices (most entrees fall under $15). Suddenly, leaving Manhatthan just got a bit tougher. |
