Pit Stop: Think French bistro and what comes to mind is probably not Formula One racing. And after a meal and a bottle at Carroll Garden’s eatery/wine bar Pit Stop, surrounded by black and white glossies of past racing giants, model toy cars, and a giant Michelin sign looming above the dining room, chances are you’ll still marvel at the odd pairing. But with a stomach full of burger and Syrah, who cares about décor? Less easy to ignore, unfortunately, are the streams of underagers—that’s under four, not 21, mind you—that neighborhood parents pack into the restaurant’s booths. Later is always better for the kid-phobic, if you can manage to grab one of three stools by the bar. Looking for more space? Take it to the outdoor garden and stretch out with a game of petanque, the French version of bocce ball. |
