Pianos: A onetime piano store, Pianos has room enough for Liberace’s wardrobe, though the crowd inside probably doesn’t own any of his albums. In fact, the indie rock bands they dig are probably playing on this bar/club’s rear room stage or recording in the studio downstairs. The long bar on the lower level is chock-full of 20-somethings who either cut their own hair or pay $200 to have it done—it’s hard to tell. When this stylish, but somewhat sparsely adorned, space opened in the early ’00s, it was all the rage. Now, like the decidedly older crowd in the upstairs bar/lounge area, where only one out of three patrons is in a band, this scene’s angst has toned itself down to something more relaxed. |
