Pegu Club: One of the biggest lounge trends in recent memory is the revival of the classic cocktail and no one does them better than Pegu Club. Bartenders in vests and ties work shakers like they’re loaded with dice, literally ignite ingredients to bring out desired characteristics, and use eggs as ingredients because the artificial stuff simply won’t do. Sure, $12 cocktails seem expensive downtown, but you get what you pay for here. The room is beautiful—carved window frames hint of Asian nuances and the bar top, a knot-laden maple that might’ve otherwise been put to waste, is sanded and glazed to perfection. Lounge seating is an option as are serviceable appetizers like sloppy duck and chicken skewers. The ginger beer works for less adventuresome palates, but live dangerously and trust the bartenders’ judgment. |
