Peasant: The Italian fare may have been born from humble roots, but the prices are geared towards the lords and ladies at this chic restaurant. Nonetheless, this rustic spot is well worth the splurge; their selection of age-old Italian delights with a twist, such as gnocchi topped with wild mushrooms, prosciutto with fruit, and “asparagi e uovo” (crisp asparagus and grapes), is reminiscent of supping in a well-appointed country manor. Communal dining unfolds at long, family-style tables, and bright copper pots hang in an open kitchen fronted by brick arches. If you’re here to get drunk on wine (highly recommended), park yourself at the bar or, better yet, head downstairs to the wine lounge, with low ceilings, low chairs, low lighting, and, refreshingly, low prices (starting at $6) for selected wines. |
