Patrick Conway’s: “Build it and they will come.” And indeed they do, largely thanks to a locale that’s both a strength and a weakness. Sitting the slightest of derailments away from Grand Central Station, Patrick Conway’s Pub is a fine Irish bloke who gets a little dressed up regardless of the occasion. White linen covers the tables and the mahogany bar is as solid and reliable as the Worcestershire sauce-doused Black Jack burger. As one might expect, the after-work hours are rather busy here, and because of this joint’s two-parts classic knickerbocker style and two-parts accessible pub ambiance, the crowd is often a disjointed, incongruent mix with no commonality outside of working in Midtown. Old pictures of Grand Central hang from the walls, along with photos of Ireland which are lit by Tiffany lamps. There’s talk of renovation so keep your eyes open and hard helmet on the ready. |
