Paquito's: Having just kicked-off decade number dos in its East Village locale, Paquito’s offers a wonderful stomach-lining, alcohol-absorbing beginning or end to an evening of St. Marks Place boozing. Paquito’s lush garden will make you forget that there are junkies sleeping in the dumpsters 10 feet away and the margaritas, camerones, and tostados will serve as a reminder as to why the this block’s corner Gap went under, and furthermore, why the new St. Marks Quizno’s super-store will meet with the same fate—people here want authenticity! While the happy hour specials and pulsating Latin beats say, “Oye Como Va,” the bar scene isn’t terribly inviting. Paquito’s “pequeno” bar area is too cramped a place for groups and, attentive and friendly staff aside, there’s no one here to meet. |
