Pacific Grill: Pacific Grill is big on the sea theme—from the oversized seahorses and crabs hanging on the walls, to the verdigris “scaled” posts behind the bar, to the lobsters displayed in tanks, innocent of their fate. Too bad the theme isn’t extended to the soothing sounds of the ocean. Disconcerting, beat-heavy dance music makes for a frenzied dining experience, as twin fabric and wooden sail-like sculptures sway lazily overhead. Plenty of outdoor seating gives the worst of both worlds: There’s not enough of an escape from the circa-’96 clubland techno, and you’re also within earshot of the “bands” on the boardwalk at the same time. This spot would be perfect for a date, if you don’t care to hear anything each other say, and you’re both nostalgic for the Tunnel. |
