P.J. Carney’s
Imagine Hell, then add so many yuppies that evil itself would move elsewhere. Ah, Midtown. Office drones commute in from Jersey, hit Subway for lunch, and then commute right on back out. Thanks to 14 years of practice, Carney’s has made an Art of surviving the unavoidably miserable after-work nightmare that hits every bar in this area. They get the rush, alright, and no one with any hope or dignity would want to get swept up in it; but afterwards, this place picks up the pieces and soldiers on as a respectable neighborhood bar. P.J. Carney’s fish and chips are more than serviceable and the locals will gladly regale you with stories of the bar’s in-house ghost who’s sometimes seen in what might be the city’s smallest licensed kitchen.
