Nolita House:
This restaurant/bar is one of a handful that has sprung up in recent years to revitalize the once dreary stretch of East Houston between NoLita and the Lower East Side. A cheerful mosaic entryway takes patrons a half story above street level to a smallish restaurant with a long bar and curious schoolhouse theme. The walls are painted green chalkboard, and the staff’s old-school portraits are hung for casual perusal and mocking. Unlike middle school, there are inventive cocktails and a hearty wine list to ease any social awkwardness. Fancy, schmancy artisanal cheese and wine pairings seem a little misguided for the 30-something, jeans and t-shirt crowd; the weekend brunches with live music are more on target (a band also plays on Thursdays), although quite tame for those who remember the space as The Knitting Factory.
I've been here a few times and my overall experience has been great. Yummy pizza, great wine, good music and cozy atmosphere. The brunch is nice on sat and sun and its not too busy so you will get a table when walking in. It’s a great date spot.
