No Malice Palace: Does the NYC hustle have you screaming "serenity now!"? A visit to under-the-radar standby, No Malice Palace, may calm your nerves. Marked only by a green lantern, its nondescript facade is conveniently incognito to the drunk and disorderly. Duck in on a weekday and you'll find, as the utopian name suggests, a mixed bag of amiable downtowners chatting over Stellas at the13-seat mirrored bar. Stroll deeper, and the ultra-dark space opens into a casual lounge complete with mismatched sofas, cherry velvet Victorian chairs, and a kitschy faux fireplace. Or if fresh air gets you Zen, hit the small yet appealing outdoor patio. But be warned: late nights get loud and packed thanks to exceptional DJs who spin rap and reggae while focusing on rare and old-school tracks. So if wading through throngs of kids (lured by bottle service sans cover) makes you malicious, stick to early evenings. Open daily 7:30pm-4:00am.
