Nello Summertimes: Don’t expect a smile when you get the check for your $28 bellini or $40 glass of Moet—a frown, snarky comments, and rude service will have to do. The Hamptons outpost of Madison Avenue's Nello, a moneyed, Euro crowd comes for food during the day (think $47 lobster bisque and $30 caesar salad), and at night, tables are pushed aside, a little smoke and flashing strobe lights are cued, and voila! The young (and the um, young at heart) can party into the wee hours as they sip on $1,800 bottles of wine and dance to hot tunes by the likes of Shakira and Michael Jackson. That said, many stop by Nello and grab a drink at the outside deck as they wind down their nights or, conversely, before heading to the nearby clubs. The requisite fat wallet and killer outfits come without saying if you’re looking to fit in and indulge in some of the best people-watching imaginable. |
