Mulligan's Pub: Like a pair of old sweatpants, this Midtown pub is scruffy, but convenient; it’s the ideal destination for those who don’t know better or don’t care to search beyond a typical local Irish pub. Dim lighting emanating from small wall lanterns keeps a gratefully low glow over the mauve walls, wood paneling, TVs, and aging Ireland-themed, dorm room-style posters. In the after-work weekday hours, Mulligan’s holds court to tables of 30- and 40-something diners chowing down familiar pub and diner-style food. The long wooden bar is usually crowded with local office drones donning Irish smiles and bloodshot eyes. Mulligan’s décor and ambiance is nothing fancier than what you have at home (if it is, please find a girlfriend stat), but with its unpretentious vibe, it may be just as comfortable and inviting. |
