Mesa Coyoacan:
What exactly is Coyoacan? It's where Chef Ivan Garcia grew up; a small artsy community outside Mexico City where Frida Kahlo once lived. Garcia has completely gutted and redesigned the interior of a generic Mexican place and gave it the vibe of his home town. There's a dark wood bar and a communal table that can seat a party of twelve. Above the table are black and white photographs of his family, who provided the secret recipe for Coyoacan’s mouth-watering mole sauce. This chocolate-colored goodness is the highlight of the menu. It has a delicate and complex flavor that’s perfect when paired with the bartender's choice of red wine. Cheers to a hipper, tastier Mexican spot in Williamsburg. We hope the locals respond, so Garcia can follow through on his plans to feature a brunch menu, full liquor bar, and eventually an outdoor terrace.
