Mermaid Oyster Bar: New York City Mermaid sightings seem to be on the rise. First one was spotted in the East Village, then another made waves in the Upper West. Now, this little Mermaid has come ashore in Greenwich Village in the form of a seafood shack, where owner Danny Abrams goes overboard to make you feel the sand between your toes. If the chance to slurp down 16 different types of oysters—there are 16 types of oysters?—seems inviting, then shuck your way over to this place. But diners be forewarned: Abrams runs a strictly "fish-forward" menu. Veggies and red-meat loyalists might have a rocky time navigating this dish list, which is comprised almost entirely of fruits of the sea. As for the titular dish, you won't have to be a Rockefeller to enjoy the oysters ($1.75-$2.75), and clams at $6 per half-dozen. Them's Coney prices! So say what you want about the mythical lady herself, but we're glad this Mermaid exists. |
