Mercadito:
As a young boy, present-day restaurateur and culinary king Patricio Sandoval spent innumerable hours shopping with his mother in the small-town produce markets of his native Mexico. These habitual sojourns quickly made an indelible impression on the adolescent Sandoval, inspiring a lifelong interest in and dedication to the preparation and presentation of a diverse spectrum of Mexican cuisines, and culminating in the development and creation of Mercadito (Spanish for “little market”). Owner-run and operated (Sandoval is also the master chef), this irresistibly appealing East Village restaurant and tequila bar delivers both simplistically straightforward, widely recognized “staple” dishes and complex, little-heard-of delicacies. Make a run for the border, and don’t forget to down some tequila on the way.
