McSwiggan's
Sister to the West Village’s notorious Barrow Street Alehouse, McSwiggan’s champions the dive genre with feet-sticking floors, dim lighting, classic rock on the juke, and a perpetual beer aroma. The cozy pub tends to have a smattering of regulars who’ve mastered the townie type at an unlikely junction of Gramercy and Stuy-Town. Bartenders actually lend an ear, tap beer selections are plentiful (16) and cheap ($4 on average), and there’s even a “Cheers”-esque quality to the pendant lights. On any given night you’ll find beer drinkers shooting darts, hunching over Photo Hunt, or banging around a cue ball at a table in the more brightly lit, but still dingier back. A prominent clock lets the merrily buzzed NYU pack who flock in for the Wednesday night special know when their imbibing time is about to expire: $10 will get you all the tap beer you can drink, or at least order, between nine and midnight.
