Makor
Beware: Makor Café is easy to miss as it’s tucked in the basement of a cultural center. Once you find it and clear yourself with the front desk receptionist/security, it’s a nice, quiet place to enjoy a beer after Shabbat. The bar has two sections. One side includes a dining area and bar open to the public, while the other is a performance space, for which a cover charge usually ranges from $10 to $15. Though hanging out there a few nights a week and sucking on a beer bottle may not guarantee spiritual fulfillment, it’s a step in the right direction. Not to mention, your mother will be proud you’re there and not your usual seedy gentile hangouts.
