Mai House: Despite absolutely no need for yet another desperately hip, overblown, Asian-themed megaplex, Mai House, located in the heart of TriBeCa, is a place that was built to impress. With glittery cocktails and gourmet eats, this upscale Vietnamese outpost (located in a former warehouse) will appease both gourmands and scenesters alike. The space itself is large and full of Ho Chi Minh-themed décor, although it ultimately comes across as somewhat colorless and unoriginal (hey, it’s Vietnam). Knock back a Jito (rum, lemongrass, kaffir lime, curry leaves), a Vietnamese spin on the mojito, while enjoying some frog’s legs lollipops, wild-boar sausage, or BBQ quail. Yep, sounds like just another day for the New York restaurant scene. |
