Mad River Bar & Grille: There’s a sign at Mad River Bar and Grille that reads “The Mad River Inn” in Rockwellian lettering—neat characters that conjure up images of a white-haired, kindly looking innkeeper carrying freshly baked apple pie to the table. But while the décor here is reminiscent of a quaint country B&B, the theme dies there. Once unleashed from their pens—er, cubicles—working little piglets head here for cheap drafts and well drinks during the nightly happy hour. With ties loosened, slacks rumpled, and shirts untucked, previously put-together junior bankers and assistants get wild on the dance floor to a mix of Top 40 hits and old-school standards. When renovated, Mad River’s upstairs area could provide a tamer place to hang. But downstairs, there’s always a sloppy party. |
