Macbar: Don’t let the name fool you: It’s neither a bar, nor a help desk in the Apple Store. Instead, it’s the latest culinary addition to NoHo’s Delicatessen, and its dedicated solely to upscale mac’ n’ cheese. Remember how you used to try and jazz up that boxed crap from Kraft in college? Well, talk about missed opportunities: If you had only acted faster you could have been the one getting up to $18 a plate for kraftwork such as “Mac Lobsta”, “Cheese Burger Mac” and “Mac Stroganoff.” We’re half-surprised said dishes aren't being served by a cheerful, anthropomorphic hand. There is some quality post-modern kitsch, though, including Velveeta orange walls and macaroni-shaped foil bowls. But if you're intrigued enough to visit, try not to bring any friends—Macbar seats about six and blasts you right out the door with music so loud, you really will feel you're back in college. Put another way, this place is cheesier than the dishes themselves. |
