M Bar: If film noir, the beach, and Luke Skywalker’s light saber ever had a three-way, the demon spawn that resulted might bear a likeness to M Bar. Marooned on the outskirts of NoLita, Little Italy, and the Lower East Side, M Bar’s décor pairs oversized black and white photos of smooching retro couples, electric-blue lighting, a DJ booth, and fake palm trees. The cocktails and beer whipped up from the longish bar will either help you forget the décor or accentuate it, but the frequent drink specials will at least be easy on your wallet. Most wind up snuggled up on a banquette in this loungey space, though the DJ tries his hardest to change that. |
