Luna Park: CLOSED. On spring’s first warm day don’t you want to slurp a frozen drink in the middle of a city park? So does all of Manhattan. Early in the season Luna Park attracts more patrons than ants to the first sno-cone drip. There’s good reason. It’s completely outdoors, and you can sip sangria pitchers freely rather than test the law with a brown paper bag and a 40-oz. Corona. Utterly weather-dependent, Luna is saner mid-season when neighborhood residents summer in the Hamptons. Strung-up lights glow nightly for a backyard BBQ feel, but afternoons are just as relaxing with concession-style service, plastic chairs, and huge servings of delicious fries for $4 (it’s worth another $2 to top ’em with Cajun cheese). Drinks can get pricey—a plastic cup of frozen margarita is $10—but with a $10 burger, a warm day, and a drinking/dining environment where you can smoke without legal or social offense, the experience is hard to pass up. |
