Low Bar: Low Bar almost seems like an afterthought—it’s as if the paternal owners of the restaurant Rice decided to let their art-student child have a place of his own in the basement. Low is one of the very few places left in DUMBO where you can get a stiff drink, sample an inventive menu (skewers!), and listen to occasional live jazz, or attend a reading series in an unpretentious space that has a Dead Poet’s Society feel (but without the sentimental dialogue). If you’re one of the billy-goat gruffs living under the bridge, you’re likely to make this raw space (exposed brick, unfinished bar, sparse lighting, and bench-style seating) your home away from home. Swing Low and channel your inner Chuck Palahniuk.
*As of July 4, 2007, Low Bar is open for private events only.** |
