Love: Despite the name, which we kinda hate, this could be the most underrated club in NYC. Tucked underground just off decidedly un-hip W. 8th St., Love is what Manhattan used to be. A high-tech DJ booth operates an amazing sound system, through which drum and bass plays on some Fridays, and an incredibly varied, eclectic mix of Manchester '80s, indie rock, acid house, et al, plays on weekends and the occasional weeknight. And at the center of it all: an actual dance floor where people don't care about seeing and being seen! Two smaller rooms built for lounging include a cave-like bar area and an incredibly unique human Habitrail, which hides behind an amazing, if not slightly messy, waterfall. If everyone would just go here once, there'd be no need for the Meatpacking District or West Chelsea. |
